1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup light molasses
2-1/3 cups flour
1/2 tsp.salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1 cup boiling water

Thoroughly cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and molasses; beat well.Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with water, beating until smooth. Bake in 2 waxed paper lined 8 inch round pans for 35-40 minutes.

Frost with ginger frosting:
Beat 1 cup heavy cream and 1 egg white until fluffy; add 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1/4 tsp. ginger. Refrigerate.
