4 Tbl shortening
1-1/2 cups sugar
3 eggs
5 cups sifted flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp nutmeg
2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup milk
1 cup applesauce
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each egg. Add baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon and mix well. Mix in the milk and applesauce. Add flour 1 cup at a time mixing well after each cup.
Drop by 1/2 teaspoonfuls in 350-375° (High) canola or vegetable oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels, with paper sacks underneath, then, roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.
For best flavor, use new oil.
