8-tart apples
Sugar
1/2 inch-cinnamon stick
2-cloves
2-tbl butter
A few gratings of nutmeg

Peel, core and cut the apples into large chunks. Put them into a pan and add a very small amount of water, about 2-tbl of sugar, the cinnamon and cloves. Cover and cook slowly until tender, about 15 minutes. Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves; stir in the butter
Add more sugar to taste

To can this recipe:
Put hot applesauce into hot sterilized jars; seal. Process for 20 minutes in a hot water bath
